Dr. Afnan Alshuaiby delivered a speech during the opening ceremony of WDO’s Webinar on “Advocating Women's Rights within Family Laws: Best Practices in the OIC Member Countries” in collaboration with The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC).

“It is essential to commend the OIC countries for their commitment to engaging in conversations and implementing measures to reform family laws. Our nations have recognized the urgency to address gender disparities and discrepancies present within their legal frameworks and have displayed a willingness to shape positive change,” stated the Executive Director.

“Today in light of the 16 days of activism, we celebrate the positive steps taken by these countries in reshaping family laws to align with principles of gender equality, justice, and human rights,” she added.

During the opening session, WDO’s Executive Director was joined by SESRIC’s Director General, H.E. Zehra Zümrüt Selcuk.

The webinar’s main aim is to highlight the approaches by which women’s rights in family laws could be promoted. It focuses on sharing best practices from OIC member countries that have made significant strides in safeguarding women's rights in family laws.

It also sheds light on cases of analyses of the existing legal frameworks related to women's rights in OIC countries and explores opportunities for improvement based on successful practices from other member countries. Moreover, the webinar aims to raise awareness of the importance of promoting equality in treatment within family laws and their positive impact on overall societal development.
